LIVE from SAC: Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE

a Benefit Concert for the Jazz Foundation of America’s KEYED UP! Program

presented with The Jam Session and Hosted by WPPB’s Ed German and Brian Cosgrove

*Doors open at 6 PM for food and drink complements of Bay Burger and Union Cantina plus a display of artwork by local artists. Concert will begin at 7 PM.


Southampton Arts Center and The Jam Session are thrilled to kick-off the 2018 season with Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE, an all-star concert to benefit the Jazz Foundation of America’s KEYED UP! program. World-class music and delicious food will come together on February 3, 2018 in support of live Jazz and the people who have made it a truly iconic musical genre.

Keep Live Jazz ALIVE is a much-needed tribute to this American artform and a celebration of live Jazz. This display of musical expression will emerge during the deep slumber of winter, bringing our East End community together with a big-band experience. Musicians include Ray Anderson on Trombone, Claire Daly on Baritone Saxophone, Jay Rodriguez on Tenor Saxophone, Morris Goldberg on Alto Saxophone, Diego Urcola on Trumpet, Santi Debriano on Bass, Bill O’Connell on Piano, and Claes Brondal on Drums.

Jazz is an eclectic gumbo of world cultures born in the giant melting pot of the United States. This style of music is truly timeless, continuously evolving and appealing to kids of all ages. Keeping Live Jazz ALIVE will shine a bright light on Jazz and showcase world-class musicians in their natural environment – before a live audience!

The Jazz Foundation of America is a vital custodian of jazz. This benefit will enable these organizations to assist musicians in dire need and help provide a quality venue in the east end community. So get ready for an unprecedented musical event during midst of the dark of winter. It’s the first benefit of the 2018 season!

The concert will be recorded for rebroadcast on local NPR Member station WPPB by recording engineer and Jam Session Radio Hour host George Howard. Net proceeds will benefit KEYED UP! and Southampton Arts Center’s live music programming.

KEYED UP! has quickly become NYC’s favorite entity for musicians, audiences, and venues alike. Operating simultaneously in over 25 partner venues spanning from Jersey City, NJ to Sag Harbor, NY, Keyed Up is proud to keep hundreds of musicians working and over a thousand hungry jazz listeners happy each week at no extra cost to partner venues.

Jazz Generation is a Keyed Up! jazz education and performance initiative that creates playing opportunities for children and adults in separate, yet complementary, programs. For younger jazz musicians, the Jazz Standard Youth Orchestra gives the invaluable experience of a weekly gig on one of New York’s most famous stages. Finally, for New York schoolchildren, the Jazz Discovery Program introduces the music to grade schoolers, often for the first time.

eARTh – Artists as Activists

Curated by Amy Kirwin Programmatic Partners include Peconic Land Trust, South Fork Natural History Museum, Oceana and the Peter Matthiessen Center. This timely exhibition will feature artists who use their talents to focus on environmental conservation and activism, whether through fine art, upcycling, photography, film, music, prose or other forms of artistic expression. Exhibiting artists will hold workshops throughout, poignant panel discussions will be organized with the presenting partners, plus special film screenings including the sensational Fantastic Fungi. The intention of eARTh is to create a beautiful message about the state of our precious earth in a way that all can understand and appreciate. Artists include Roisin Bateman, Kristian Brevik, Scott Bluedorn, Megan Chaskey, Erica Cirino, Rossa Cole, Janet Culbertson, Thomas Deininger, Alejandro Duran, Jim Gingerich, Mamoun Friedrich Grosvenor, John Haigney, Kara Hoblin, Michael Light, Pamela Longobardi, Christa Maiwald, Tucker Marder, Steve Miller, Patricia Paladines, Aurora Robson, Cindy Pease Roe, Lauren Ruiz, Anne Seelbach, Kathryn Szoka, and Diane Tuft, plus a special project by the members of the South Fork Natural History Museum’s Young Environmentalists program. As much as we look forward to spending time with you at our annual SummerFest celebration and gala, current government restrictions prohibit us from gathering in large groups. This year calls for a new approach. As such, we are taking this moment to honor, recognize and thank SAC’s most cherished and loyal friends by introducing our 2020 Patrons Circle.
