EN PLEIN AIR PAINTING WITH HOWARD ROSE

Join us at Southampton Arts Center for a plein air painting class led by Howard Rose. Open to artists of all levels—from beginners to professionals—this session offers a chance to develop your skills while painting on-site in a beautiful outdoor setting.
This class is presented in collaboration with the Bridgehampton Museum as part of their summer plein air painting program.
MAH JONGG (6-WEEK WORKSHOPS)

BEGINNERS | 11 AM - 1 PM
INTERMEDIATE | 2 PM - 4 PM
Learn to play the fun, challenging, and thought-provoking game of American Mah Jongg. This six-week course covers all aspects of the game, including understanding the card, selecting and playing your hand, and pick-up playing strategies, all leading to the ultimate Mah Jongg.
Attendance for the first class is required to participate in this six-week course. This is where you will learn the fundamentals of the game. By the second class, the games shall begin, and the challenge is on! Bring your Mah Jongg set to class if you have one.

EN PLEIN AIR PAINTING WITH BRENDAN JOHNSTON (4-WEEK WORKSHOP)

In this four-day workshop, you will learn the basic steps and techniques to accomplish an en plein air landscape painting. Painting outdoors is one of the most thrilling ways of making art, but it also has its challenges. This class is designed for artists of all levels who want to deepen their connection to nature and develop their ability to paint outdoors.
Working on location, you’ll learn how to:
• Simplify complex scenes into clear, strong compositions
• Quickly capture light and atmosphere during changing conditions
• Use color, value, and brushwork to suggest depth and space
• Learn about paint layering and color mixing
Each 3‐hour class begins with a brief demonstration and discussion (about 30 minutes), followed by focused painting time with one‐on‐one guidance. We’ll work at nearby outdoor locations such as the SAC gardens. By the end of the course, you will have learned the basic steps and techniques necessary to create a beautiful landscape painting. All experience levels are welcome!
Materials: Paints and brushes, stretched canvas or panels, paper towels, solvent, hat/sun protection, water to drink, and an optional folding chair or stool. A detailed materials list will be provided upon registration.

CANASTA (6-WEEK WORKSHOPS)

Learn to play the fun, challenging, and thought-provoking game of Canasta. This six-week course covers all aspects of the game, including understanding the deck and melds, selecting and playing your hand, and strategic pickup and play, all leading to confident canasta play.
Attendance for the first class is required to participate in this six-week course. This is where you will learn the fundamentals of the game. By the second class, the canasta action begins, and the challenge is on! Bring your Canasta set to class if you have one.
