Outdoors on the Summer Stage/West Lawn
The New York-based, six-piece band Soul Inscribed, brews up a mix of Hip Hop poetics and soulful vocals, propelled by a sonic blend of jazz, funk, and reggae instrumentals.
The collective features; MC/producer Baba Israel, vocalists Duv and Grace Galu, saxophonist/flutist Sean Nowell, drummer Doron Lev, and multi-instrumentalist/producer Yako 440 on guitar and bass. Soul Inscribed flows seamlessly between crafted songs, improvisation, and human beatboxing. Their shows are interactive, engaging, and will bring young people on stage to experience beatbox, DJ’ing, and dance.
Soul Inscribed members are also arts educators and have brought their music to young audiences across the world.
For their for their Southampton Arts Center performance they will be joined by Hip Hop dancer Ken Fury, who has won over thirty of the top dance competitions and has had the honor to judge some of the largest dance events worldwide.
Sponsored by Dan's Papers Michael Paraskevas has illustrated and written 24 children’s books over the years with his mother, Betty. The two created and wrote the animated television series Maggie and the Ferocious Beast for Nickelodeon that went on to win a Gemini Award for Best Animated Series. Two more of the team’s books were also made into animated series: Marvin the Tap-Dancing Horse for PBS and Kids from Room 402 for Fox Family. In addition, Mickey has worked for most major magazines including Sports Illustrated, Time, Town & Country, New York Magazine and Rolling Stone, to name but a few. Dan’s Papers has proudly used over 100 paintings of Michael’s covers over the past 30 years along with thousands of cartoons and comics.
After a successful debut in May, Southampton Arts Center will once again present the popular Raconteurs Storytelling Evening, this time with the theme of “Secrets”. Each participant will tell a true story about a secret of their own. These short and sweet tales are sure to make you laugh and cry.
