GATHER (2020 | 74 min.)

Gather follows the stories of natives on the frontlines of a growing movement to reconnect with spiritual and cultural identities that were devastated by genocide. A indigenous chef embarks on a ambitious project to reclaim ancient food ways on the Apache reservation; in South Dakota a gifted Lakota high school student, raised on a buffalo ranch, is proving her tribes native wisdom through her passion for science; and a group of young men of the Yurok tribe in Northern California are struggling to keep their culture alive and rehabilitate the habitat of their sacred salmon.

All these stories combine to show how the reclaiming and recovery of ancient food ways is a way forward for native Americans to bring back health and vitality to their people.

A Statement from Southampton Arts Center

We gather on the unceded land of the Shinnecock peoples. We ask you to join us in acknowledging the Shinnecock community, their elders both past and present, as well as future generations. Southampton Arts Center also acknowledges that it was founded upon exclusions and erasures of many Indigenous peoples, including those on whose land this institution is located. This acknowledgement demonstrates a commitment to take part in the work to dismantle the ongoing legacies of settler colonialism.

2020 PATRONS CIRCLE

12:00 am, Thursday Dec 31

As much as we look forward to spending time with you at our annual SummerFest celebration and gala, current government restrictions prohibit us from gathering in large groups. This year calls for a new approach. As such, we are taking this moment to honor, recognize and thank SAC’s most cherished and loyal friends by introducing our 2020 Patrons Circle. In lieu of supporting our annual Summerfest Gala, we invite past SummerFest supporter and longtime friends of SAC to join our new 2020 Patrons Circle. Your contribution will allow us to continue SAC’s year-round programming and serve as a critical economic driver that will lead this community out of these unsure times. Additionally, in return for your support or $10,000 or above, you will receive: - Two or Four seats to an intimate Appreciation Dinner to be held on Friday, August 21 in SAC’s Caesar Garden ($10,000/$25,000) - Recognition on summer 2020 Patrons Circle Wall inside SAC’s front gallery - Free admission to all SAC events this summer - A private tour of SAC’s Summer Exhibition 2020 VISION, in partnership with the New York Academy of Arts - Satisfaction in knowing that your contribution will significantly support this organization and our community during these challenging times
