Film: Docs Equinox – Invisible Hand – Friday, April 14 @ 5:30 PM

In collaboration with Hamptons Doc Fest, SAC will present Docs Equinox, a three-film series in celebration of Earth Month with a theme of “All in for the Aquifer.” The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and “Water Central Hub” of five environmental groups, including Group for the East End, The Nature Conservancy, Peconic Estuary Partnership, Surfrider Foundation, and Peconic Baykeeper. Keynote speaker Maya van Rossum will discuss the NYS Green Amendment, followed by a screening of Invisible Hand, produced by Mark Ruffalo and directed by Joshua Pribanic and Melissa Troutman. Following the film, Pribanic and Troutman will do a Q&A via Zoom.

About the film: In the fall of 2014, for the first time in United States history, an ecosystem filed to defend itself in a lawsuit claiming its ‘right to exist’ in Grant Township, Pennsylvania. For attempting such a radical act, Grant’s rural community of 700 people were sued by a corporation, then by the state government, and also locked in a battle to defend the watershed they call home through civil disobedience. The water they drink, the Rights to Nature laws they’ve passed are all on the line in this exclusive story.

Film: Docs Equinox – The Grab – Saturday, April 15 @ 5:30 PM

In collaboration with Hamptons Doc Fest, SAC will present Docs Equinox, a three-film series in celebration of Earth Month with a theme of “All in for the Aquifer.” The evening will begin with a cocktail reception and “Water Central Hub” of five environmental groups, including Group for the East End, The Nature Conservancy, Peconic Estuary Partnership, Surfrider Foundation, and Peconic Baykeeper. A screening of The Grab, produced by Nate Halverson and directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, will follow. Following the film, Halverson and Cowperthwaite will do a Q&A via Zoom.

About the film: Gabriela Cowperthwaite's newest documentary is an investigative thriller that offers a great deal of insight into the truth behind the colonization of our world's most precious nature resource WATER. It follows journalist Nathan Halverson of the Center for Investigative Reporting and his team as they track leaked documents. The title refers to the land GRAB done by governments in China, Saudi Arabia, Russia, and other powerful entities around the world as they try to gain control of food and water outside their borders.

Film: Docs Equinox – Patrick and the Whale – Sunday, April 16 @ 2 PM

In collaboration with Hamptons Doc Fest, SAC will present Docs Equinox, a three-film series in celebration of Earth Month with a theme of “All in for the Aquifer.” The afternoon will begin with a screening of Patrick and the Whale, directed by Mark Fletcher with cinematographer Patrick Dykstra. Following the film, Fletcher and Dykstra will do a Q&A via Zoom.

About the film: For twenty years, Patrick Dykstra has dedicated his life to traveling the globe, following, and diving with whales. Over the years, he has learned how whales see and hear, how they perceive other creatures in the water, and how they behave at close quarters. In Dominica in 2019, Patrick had a close encounter with a female sperm whale. Patrick felt an overwhelming sense that she was genuinely trying to communicate. Employing stunning cinematography, and with a keen ear tuned to the whale's song of clicks and whistles, the film follows Patrick as he takes us under the seas again to search for the special whale he named "Dolores," so she can help him show us the hidden world of her species.

Film: The Way it Goes – Saturday, April 29 @ 4:30 PM

Prior to the closing reception of EAST END COLLECTED7, SAC will screen the documentary film on the artist Nathan Slate Joseph, The Way it Goes, by filmmaker Lana Jokel. The artist’s work is about expansion and contraction, statements of destruction and reconstruction, comprised of rusted sheets of steel and chosen objects. The works, vibrant in color, are cut, bent and welded into shapes and wall reliefs. The film shows the creative process.  Interweaved with the art are scenes through the decades; of family life, art world events and figures, and the artist himself, intense, creative, outspoken, funny, and real.
