Building on years of collaborative events and co-presentations of thought-provoking documentaries and panel discussions, Southampton Arts Center [SAC – southamptonartscenter.org] and Hamptons Doc Fest [hamptonsdocfest.com] will expand their spring film series DOCS EQUINOX in 2022 to co-present three films with Q&A conversations for each. The series in celebration of Earth Month will include Bring Your Own Brigade on Friday, April 22, The Velvet Queen on Saturday, April 23, and River on Sunday, April 24. “We are grateful to once again collaborate with the Hamptons Doc Fest team to co-present three thoughtful, dynamic, and actionable documentaries in celebration of Earth Month,” shares SAC executive director Tom Dunn. “SAC’s commitment to the environment is evidenced in the exhibitions and programs we present throughout the year with and for our community, and we are thrilled to co-present Hamptons Doc Fest’s expanded Spring program.”

"Each year on Earth Day we are reminded of the part we play in saving the fragile magic of our planet,” shares Hamptons Doc Fest executive director Jacqui Lofaro. “To that end, we created a series of documentary films that speak of our connection to earth's precious elements: air, fire, water and wildlife. Our everyday actions can harm or harmonize with where we live and breathe and love. We are delighted to present our annual Docs Equinox film series in collaboration with the Southampton Arts Center, a very special place in our community."

Film schedule is as follows:

Bring Your Own Brigade – Friday, April 22 @ 6 PM
This documentary by two-time Oscar-nominated filmmaker Lucy Walker draws on hundreds of hours of astonishing wildfire footage and featuring interviews with survivors, firefighters and scientists. The film reveals that short of solving global warming there are numerous, often simple steps that can be taken to not only mitigate the catastrophic devastation caused by wildfires, but restore health and balance to woodlands that have been mismanaged for far too long. Q&A with director Lucy Walker to follow.

The Velvet Queen – Saturday, April 22 @ 2 PM
This documentary is set in the heart of the Tibetan highlands where an award-winning photographer guides a writer in his quest to document the infamously elusive snow leopard. Featuring photographer and co-director Vincent Munier and author Sylvain Tesson. Q&A with ecologist and author Carl Safina to follow.

River – Sunday, April 23 @ 3 PM
Narrated by Willem Dafoe, River takes a birds’-eye view of humanity’s relationship with our most precious resource through time. It is a story about the limits of human control, and how our short-sighted attempts to control nature have backfired. It is about the fragmentation of rivers and the long-term impact of this on the living world. Directed by Jennifer Peedom and Joseph Nizeti. Zoom Q&A with director Joseph Nizeti to follow.

Films are $15 per person, $10 for members. To learn more and purchase tickets, visit southamptonartscenter.org/film.
