Southampton Arts Center Presents Special Programming in Celebration of Figures Transformed Exhibition

In celebration of their newest exhibition, FIGURES TRANSFORMED, Southampton Arts Center [SAC – southamptonartscenter.org] will present three special exhibition-related programs in August. Films on artists Hal Buckner and Strong-Cuevas will be presented by filmmaker and exhibition presenting sponsor Lana Jokel, and exhibition curator Christina Mossaides Strassfield will lead tours and talks with artists Deborah Buck, Hal Buckner, and Strong-Cuevas. Programs and schedule are below.

“I am so delighted that we will be able to have a series of inspiring public programs that will educate the public about these three amazing artists,” shares Strassfield. “I look forward to discussing the exhibition and sharing my ideas about putting it together in my gallery tour and the panel discussion with all the artists. The films by Lana Jokel give you an up close and personal view into the work and background of Hal Buckner and Strong-Cuevas.”

Filmmaker Lana Jokel was born in Shanghai, China, grew up in Brazil, and was educated in France and the United States. She majored in languages and studied fine arts at Boston Museum of Fine Arts School. Her documentary film career began with pioneers Leacock and Pennebaker. Jokel was editor of many art documentaries and also was editor for Norman Mailer and Andy Warhol films. Among her own documentary subjects are Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Larry Rivers, Keith Sonnier, Chinese Contemporary Art and many Hamptons-based artists. Jokel is presently working on a documentary at Southampton Arts Center about the FIGURES TRANSFORMED exhibition.

Strong-Cuevas Sculpture I Like to Be Awed
“Creation begins with a wish, a desire to do something, to make something, to see beyond the immediate reality. If we are lucky, it will open a door to a stream of thought that is inspiration. We inspire, we breathe in ideas.” – Strong-Cuevas

Hal Buckner – Art is How You See It
“The line just emanated from his mind to the material and it really transformed the space. Hal Buckner utilizes the female figure to empower, celebrate and alter the art historical canon.” – Christina Mossaides Strassfield
