Southampton Arts Center Offers Full Slate of Programming for May

Southampton Arts Center [SAC – southamptonartscenter.org] newest exhibition, TECHSPRESSIONISM – Digital & Beyond, is open! Featuring the works of more than 90 artists from around the world working in technology, the show, curated by Colin Goldberg, includes a selection of paintings, sculptures, NFTs, video works, animations, installation works and prints. Complementing the exhibition and SAC’s pillars of programming, the organization will host films, drawing workshops, wellness, and more this month. Here’s what’s on deck in May…   

Talk: Tech Tuesdays: Digital/Analog Hybrids – Tuesday, May 3 @ 6 PM
Exhibition artist Anne Spalter will discuss how she used cutting edge artificial intelligence to create new types of compositions–but unexpectedly ended up using familiar drawing and painting tools to realize her final works. Moderated by exhibition advisor and director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center Helen Harrison.

Studio @ SAC: Figure Drawing Workshop – Friday, May 6 @ 1 PM
Working from a live model, artist Linda Capello’s figure drawing workshop will explore techniques of line, mass, gesture, proportion, and foreshortening, starting with short poses and working towards one long pose. Limited availability – registration is required.

Live: Hamptons Jazz Fest with Jon Irabagon – Friday, May 20 @ 7 PM
Join Southampton Arts Center and Hamptons Jazz Fest as we present first generation, Filipino-American musician Jon Irabagon for an evening of jazz and cocktails. Mix and mingle with musicians at 6 PM during our social hour with bar service. Concert will begin at 7 PM. Tables are first come, first serve.

Talk: Bridging Technology with Traditional Media – Saturday, May 28 @ 3 PM
TECHSPRESSIONISM artists Peter Borges, Roz Dimon, Carol Hunt, and Roy Nicholson with discuss how technology can serve and inspire traditional artists and those working in physical mediums. The artists will share the process behind their displayed works, relaying their personal journey with digital art and technology. Talks will open up into a group-discussion about bridging the gap between digital and physical mediums.

Talk: Tech Tuesdays: Responding to Techspressionism – Tuesday, May 31 @ 6 PM
Exhibition artist Shimon Attie will respond to the exhibition in light of technology’s expressive potential for re-imagining relationships between space, time, place, memory and identity. Moderated by exhibition advisor and director of the Pollock-Krasner House and Study Center Helen Harrison.
