Southampton Arts Center Announces its 6th Annual Architecture and Design Tour

Southampton, NY - June 1, 2023: The Southampton Arts Center (SAC) is thrilled to announce its 6th Annual Architecture and Design Tour, scheduled for Friday, June 16, starting at 11 AM. In previous years, the tour has focused on such historic architects as Grosvenor Atterbury and Stanford White. This year's fundraising event, exploring the modern evolution of Shingle Style Architecture, features an exclusive tour of four Southampton Village homes and discussion with renowned firms Robert A.M. Stern Architects, Kligerman Architecture & Design, John David Rose Architects, P.C. AIA and Siamak Samii.

Shingle Style Architecture, an American architectural style made popular in the late 19th century, is seeing a modern resurgence in relevance and innovation. The upcoming tour showcases this evolution through the distinct lens of each home participating in this year’s event.

"We're delighted to provide this opportunity for both architecture enthusiasts and industry professionals alike to explore and appreciate the modern interpretation of Shingle Style architecture," noted SAC executive director Christina Mossaides Strassfield. "Not only will attendees get a chance to view the stunning work of these distinguished architects, but they will also participate in a compelling panel discussion and enjoy a delightful brunch. We are fortunate to have the support of our esteemed host committee, who share our vision for celebrating architectural innovation in Southampton."

The host committee for this event includes J. Whitney Stevens and Mark Fichandler (co-chairs), Peter Hallock, Deborah Heimowitz, Michaela Keszler, Elyn Kronemeyer, Robert M. Lohman, Todd Merrill, Fairley Pilaro, Siamak Samii, Mary Slattery, and Sandra Walser.

The event begins with a brunch, followed by an engaging panel discussion led by Mr. Samii including representatives from each architectural firm. The discussion will revolve around the challenges and triumphs of modernizing a classic architectural style while maintaining its traditional essence.

“We are delighted to again be co-chairing this unique event for the Southampton Arts Center, during which our guests will learn more about an iconic Hamptons architectural style and also get the opportunity to see in person four exclusive homes that bring these ideas to life,” added J. Whitney Stevens and Mark Fichandler, co-chairs of the event.

After the panel discussion, attendees will enjoy a self-guided tour of four beautiful Southampton Village homes, which includes four examples of the modern Shingle Style and one renovation of an original Shingle Style residence. The tour is set to be both an educational and visually stunning experience, offering a first-hand look at the intricate detail and thoughtful design involved in each architectural project.
